A salary sacrifice car scheme is an agreement where an employee accepts a lower taxable salary in exchange for a car benefit. The employee receives less gross salary, however, they save on tax and National Insurance Contributions.

The salary given up for the car is put towards the lease costs of the vehicle, and sometimes this also includes insurance and maintenance costs.
