Employees Seeking More Support for Company Cars

With business miles on the increase, employers need to help facilitate company vehicles.

A recent survey by Alphabet GB states that 78% of fleet decision-makers have seen an increase in business miles being driven. In addition, 63% of fleet managers say these business journeys are being made in privately owned cars.

This isn’t positive news, as your employees are heading  to see  customers in a car that you have no control over. Do you know if the vehicle is road safe? Is the vehicle creating the right impression at customer meetings? Employers are legally required to manage the risks and hazards associated with business travel and ensure any vehicles driven for work purposes are safe to drive.

If you want to take control of your grey fleet  (personal cars used for business), you need to provide employee car benefits that can be used for business and personal mileage.

Employees opting into car schemes on the increase

The survey reports that 66% of companies with small fleets have seen an increase in employees choosing to opt into company car schemes. A further 67% said interest in Salary Sacrifice Cars has also risen.

Offering Salary Sacrifice Cars is an attractive benefit when it comes to Electric Vehicles, with the current Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate of just 2% for cars with under 75g/km of CO₂ emissions, as per the Optional Remuneration Arrangement (OpRA) established in 2017. There is no cost for your business to provide Salary Sacrifice cars, and it’s a benefit that you can offer to all employees.

Options for employee car benefits

Here at Car Benefit Solutions (CBS), we can offer traditional company cars via Business Car Leasing, Salary Sacrifice Cars, or an alternative solution – Employee Car Ownership Schemes (ECOS). So, whatever your business requirements are, we’re confident we’ll have a solution for you that will have multiple benefits for you and your employees.

We can help decide which benefit package is right for you depending on if your fleet includes entitled and non-entitled drivers, wherever you are on your green agenda, and the benefit level you want to offer.
